Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) has said that party members who criticize the party leadership and attempt to create a division in the party would be severely dealt with.
UNP parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera told a press conference today that the party's leadership crisis has been resolved with the Working Committee unanimously approving the re-appointment of Ranil Wickremasinghe as the party leader.
He said the party leadership has decided to severely deal with the members who criticize the party leadership and try to create a division in the party without considering the positions held by them in the party.
Samaraweera also added that the UNP will fight to re-establish an independent Elections Commission and an independent Elections Commissioner in the country as the government had misused its powers during the local government elections.
