JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva told a press conference that the people's mandate has been altered in the election results as the masses were intimidated and manipulated into voting for the governing UPFA.
He said the outcome of the election should not be determined by numbers, but by the environment in which the polls were held.
He added that the election could not be considered a free and fair election as there was rampant abuse of state powers and resources and conducted without the independent elections commission in place.
According to Silva, the governing UPFA did everything in its power to buy votes from the people by giving them various perks.
The Marxist party failed to secure any seat in yesterday's elections and only garnered slightly over 3 percent of votes.
