The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau (SLFEB) says it is making efforts to ensure a safe return for Sri Lankans in Egypt amid continuing protests in the country.
While the SLFEB is trying to bring home the Sri Lankan workers in the troubled country, the Ministry has decided to stop Sri Lankans from migrating to Egypt under the present conditions, SLFEB additional General Manager N.K. Ruhunage has said.
The Ministry will reverse its decision if the situation improved, Ruhunage has added.
More than 18,000 people have flocked to the Cairo International Airport on Tuesday to find a way out as protests against President Hosni Mubarak continued for the 8th day across Egypt.
The welfare and safety of the Sri Lankans who are already working in Egypt is being monitored by the Sri Lankan Embassy in Egypt, the SLFEB said.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs so far there are no reports of Sri Lankans being affected.
