Sri Lanka launches logo for Commonwealth Games 2018 Hambantota bid

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa Monday (31) ceremonially unveiled the logo at the Temple Trees for the bid to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Hambanthota.

The logo features eight greeting pairs of hands in the colors of the Commonwealth Games Federation.
Sri Lanka has already submitted an 'Expression of Interest' which had to be done prior to the March 31, 2010 deadline to bid for hosting the games.

The government has appointed an organizing committee co-chaired by the Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage and the Governor of Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal to prepare the bid for the Commonwealth Games.

Gold Coast of Queensland, Australia is the only other bidder to host the event. The Commonwealth Games Federation will announce the winning bid in Basseterre, St Kitts on November 11.

Minister Dilan Perera, President of Commonwealth Games Association and National Olympic Committee Hemasiri Fernando, Chairman of the Tharunyata Hetak movement MP Namal Rajapaksa, parliamentarians and other distinguished invitees were also present.
