Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) has handed in a motion to Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa today calling for a select committee to determine if the allegations leveled against UNP MP Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena were true.
The motion has been signed by eight UNP MPs including deputy leader Karu Jayasuriya.
The motion has called on the Speaker to ascertain whether the allegations made by Chief Government Whip and Minister Dinesh Gunawardena against Dr. Jayawardena were true.
Meanwhile, the governing party earlier handed a motion to the Speaker calling for a select committee to probe Dr. Jayawardena's conduct.
