Sri Lanka Army to purchase high-tech armored vehicles from Russia

Sri Lanka's Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya today said the Army is to purchase more armored vehicles with superior technology.

Addressing the 55th anniversary celebration of the Army's Armored Corps at Rock House Camp in Mutuwal, Jayasuriya said that the Army should be further strengthened to face any situation and should not allow the terrorism to resurface.

He said that discussions were underway with Russia to purchase high-tech armored vehicles.

"The government is already negotiating to get high-tech armored vehicles built in Russia to strengthen the Armored Corps. With that strengthening, we can expect more opportunities for troopers to take part in United Nations Peas Keeping duties," Jayasuriya said.

The Army Commander added that following the end of the war, soldiers could now contribute to the rebuilding of the country.
