A group of Sri Lanka's Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) affiliated Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) members today held a protest in South Africa against the alleged movement by the Sri Lankan government to privatize the country's higher education sector.
The protest was organized alongside the 17th World Festival for Youth and Students currently underway in Pretoria, South Africa.
IUSF Convener Udul Premaratne who was released on bail by courts last week also participated in the protest.
Premaratne was arrested for allegedly entering into the Higher Education Ministry premises and causing damage to public property.
A group of participants from several other countries had also joined the protest organized by Sri Lanka's IUSF. Apart from protesting the privatization of the country's education sector, the demonstrators have also protested against the alleged suppression of university students.
