Heavy rains flood roads in Sri Lankan capital again

Several roads of Colombo city went underwater today as a result of torrential showers. Traffic police said that the vehicular movements are slow in several major roads due to congestion caused by floods.

Horton roundabout, Thunmulla junction, Pettah Bastian Road, Armour Street, Royal Street and the road in front of Kirulapona police station are under water, according to police.

Sri Lanka Metereology Department has predicted heavy thunder showers in Western Province today. Several hours ago, the Meteorology Department said that the Colombo city had received 50 mms of rainfall.

Central Province has also received high rainfall, Meteorology Department sources said.
