Teachers' Union focuses government attention to Northern Province schools during monsoons

Ceylon Teachers' Union urges the Ministry of Education and the government to focus on the situation of the schools of the Northern Province areas of resettlement as the monsoon rains have started.

The General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers' Union Joseph Stalin Fernando pointed out that many schools in resettlement areas in Northern Province are unfit to carry on education during the monsoon months.

.The Northeastern monsoon has commenced now and the torrential showers caused the floors of many schools muddy and unfit for education since many temporary coconut-leaf roofed buildings of schools do not have cement floors.
Joseph Stalin pointed out that the Mankulam School had to be closed as the rain started on Friday due to this situation. He said that around 30 major schools of Northern Province including Kilinochchi and Omanthai Central Schools are facing the situation.

Joseph Stalin further pointed out that still school buildings are occupied by Army and urged the government to take immediate measures to release the school buildings for the education.
