Hundreds of Sri Lankan chefs will get together today to prepare a record-breaking Kiri Bath (Milk Rice) in honor of President Mahinda Rajapaksa's birthday.
Master Chef Dr. T. Publis Silva and 500 chefs will prepare the world's biggest Kiri Bath at the Independence Square in Colombo where the Nidahasa Exhibition is being held for the second day today.
The chefs led by Silva are to prepare 4000 kilograms of Kiri Bath from 1200 kg of white rice, 300 kg of cashew, 250 kg of jaggery, and 1500 coconuts. The gargantuan Milk Rice will be enough to feed some 65,000 people, according to media reports.
The chefs will commence preparing the Kiri Bath at 2 PM. It is expected to be completed by around 6 PM.
Chef Publis is already in the Guinness Book of records for cooking the largest and longest Kiri Bath with 1020 kg of rice that was presented on a 600 ft long table.
Sri Lanka Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratna Wednesday opened the Nidahasa Exhibition which showcases the patriotism and modern technology for the public at the Independence Square in Colombo. The exhibition will be open from 2 pm till 10 pm until Saturday, the 20th.
According to the Secretary to the Ministry of Mass Media, W.B Ganegala the exhibition has been organized to depict prosperity, freedom, and future development of the country.
Director General of Government Information Prof. Ariyaratne Ethugala said that a rare collection of pictures showing the political history of the country will be on display at the exhibition.
The Moratuwa University meanwhile, will present a special fashion display produced by using local textiles.
The public will also have a chance to taste a variety of nutritious foods prepared by some of the leading hotels in the country.
Day's events at the exhibition will be concluded with a music show every night beginning at 10 PM.
