Sri Lanka President orders immediate halt to felling cypress trees in Nuwara Eliya

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa has ordered an immediate halt to felling cypress trees indigenous to the hill country during a tour in the Nuwara Eliya town yesterday.


President Rajapaksa toured the Nuwara Eliya town after the special Deepawali ceremony at the President's House in Nuwara Eliya yesterday (05). During the tour, the President observed some cypress trees have been cut down and instructed officials to stop the cutting of these trees immediately.
The President also inspected the Nuwara Eliya Race Course strewn with litter and instructed the city officials to immediately clean up the litter.
President Rajapaksa also took time to have discussions with the local officials of Nuwara Eliya city. Ministers C.B. Ratnayake and Arumugam Thondaman were also present.
