Sri Lanka Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe has asked the government as to how a decision has been arrived at to extend the parliamentary complex without consulting the party leaders.
Wickremasinghe told the parliament that he had learnt of the decision to construct another building in the parliamentary complex through the media.
Responding to a query by Wickremasinghe as to the fact that successive government's had never taken any arbitrary decisions like that, Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratne has noted that he had submitted a Cabinet paper on the matter.
Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa meanwhile said the move was mooted according to a decision by the Staff Advisory Committee and also called on the Opposition Leader to participate in the meetings of this committee or to send someone who will report to him properly.
