Sri Lanka Northern Naval Command to plant over 6,000 trees to celebrate President's second term inauguration

Sri Lanka Navy's Northern Naval Area Command under Rear Admiral S.M.B. Weerasekara has organized a tree planting campaign to celebrate the inauguration of the second term of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.


 Under the 'Nilla Piruna Ratack' theme the Northern Command has commenced a "One Man One Plant" tree planting campaign to plant a tree for each person living in the areas under its administration.
The campaign aims to ultimately plant over 6,000 trees in the Northern Naval Area. The project is a brainchild of Rear Admiral Weerasekara
Already 2,225 saplings have been planted and another 3,880 are scheduled to be planted on the 18th of November 2010 in view of President Rajapaksa's 65th birthday and inauguration of his second term to the office.
A total of 6,015 saplings will be planted and out of those 2,488 will be coconut saplings.
The administrative districts of Kilinochchi, Jaffna and Mannar come under Northern Naval Area for all Naval purposes.
