Sri Lanka Customs has earned a significant income last month, the Director General of Sri Lanka Customs Mrs. Sudharma Karunarathne announced today.
The income during the month of October has been recorded as Rs. 3.87 billion Mrs. Sudharma Karunarathne says. In September also the Customs earned Rs. 3.46 billion rupees.
The increase of income via import of motor vehicles has contributed to the rapid increase. Earnings via import of motor vehicles rose from Rs. 180 million in January this year to Rs. 1.47 billion by October.
The Director General attributes the rapid increase of importing motor vehicles to the tax concessions declared by the government.
Sri Lanka in June this year reduced vehicle import taxes by 50 percent and removed the 15% import surcharge levied on all imports.
