No more polythene in botanical gardens of Sri Lanka

Director General of Botanical Gardens of Sri Lanka Dr. Cyril Wijesundara says that the government has decided to ban polythene entirely into botanical gardens of the island.

He said that the reason behind the new regulation is the dumping of unmanageable quantities of polythene by the visitors into the parks. The Department of Botanical Gardens say that around three-tractor loads of waste, mostly polythene, are removed daily from Peradeniya Botanical Garden alone.
Accordingly, the visitors into the botanical gardens at Peradeniya, Haggala and Henarathgoda will be thoroughly inspected for polythene. They will be provided with wrapping papers if necessary in place of polythene.
The Department urges the public to refrain from bringing polythene into botanical gardens in the island.
