The state government on Monday warned the film fraternity against making claims on exemption of entertainment tax for Tamil movies without proper scrutiny and approval of the three-member screening committee. In a press release, the government said all movies that have Tamil names are eligible for entertainment tax exemption. However, it has to be scrutinised by a committee comprising commercial taxes secretary, Tamil development secretary and director for Tamil development.
The government will not approve any claim of film producers for tax exemptions without the committee's approval and in all such cases the producers will have to remit the full tax amount.
