The government of India has donated 500 four-wheel Mahindra tractors to Sri Lanka under a grant to promote agriculture in the Northern Province.
According to a press release issued by Mahindra Group today, DIMO, the Mahindra dealer in Sri Lanka, was awarded the contract for supplying the tractors.
Earlier this month, High Commissioner of India in Colombo, Ashok K. Kantha ceremoniously handed over 52 of the 500 four-wheel tractors to Sri Lanka's Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
All the tractors are completely equipped with all the farm implements, namely, 9 Tine Tiller, Rotovator, two-furrow Disc Plough, and cage wheel. The total cost of the project is 600 million Sri Lankan rupees.
"We are delighted that the government has chosen to donate Mahindra tractors to Sri Lanka. The Mahindra Group has a long and enduring association with Sri Lanka which is an important market for us and this is our way of helping in the nation building process," Mahindra & Mahindra Chief Executive (International Operations), Automotive and Farm Sector P N Shah said.
