.The Chairman of Ceylon Teachers' Union Joseph Stalin Fernando said that the Ministry of Education has issued a circular numbering 2010/29 directing the schools to be held for 210 days per year.
However, due to various ceremonies, functions and other events, the number of the days schools are held and also the number of education days of the schools has gone down the expected level, he said. Major schools were closed for presidential and general elections, Deyata Kirula exhibition and other events, he said.

He also said that the postponement of the term tests of the government schools due to the ceremonies this week had also affected the schools.
