Sri Lankan parliament passes motion to increase salaries of judges

The Sri Lankan parliament today (20) passed a motion presented by Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne to increase the salaries of judges.

The motion was unanimously passed in parliament.
The salary increments are to be effective from January 2006 according to the 6/2006 State Administrative Circular of April 25, 2006 and as per Article 108(1) of the Constitution.

The basic salary of the Chief Justice will be Rs. 71,500, Supreme Court judges and Court of Appeal Chairman's will be Rs. 65,000 while the salary for Court of Appeal judges will be Rs. 63,500.
