Science and Technology Minister Professor Tissa Vitharana has told the local media that the national policy has been prepared with the aim of achieving at least a 10 per cent increase on high tech products.
The newly formulated plan is expected to produce goods and services using the modern technologies in the world.
The Minister has said advanced technology initiatives, techno entrepreneurship initiatives and directed research and development are the key components for rapid economic development.
"We must have world class national research and innovative systems to create a scientifically literate society. We must get science and technology to our culture without affecting the environment," he has observed.
Nanotechnology would be used to the fullest potential under this initiative.
