Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to leave for China today on a two-day official visit to participate in the Expo 2010 Shanghai China closing ceremony, the Government Information Department announced today.
The 180-day mega exhibition which has drawn over 70 million people to the event since its opening will come to a close on Sunday, October 31.
The Expo under the theme "Better City, Better Life", representing the common wish of the whole humankind for better living in future urban environments has showcased 192 countries and 50 organizations featuring a pavilion each day for each country.
Sri Lanka displayed five distinctive cities of the country under the theme Tradition to Modernity in an innovative and artistic way to review their histories on its Pavilion Day on July 18, 2010 with the participation of the Sri Lankan Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne as the chief guest.
The closing ceremony on Sunday is to be attended by a distinguished gathering including President Rajapaksa.
President Rajapaksa is scheduled to be in Shanghai tomorrow to view the Exhibition. He is also expected to meet Chinese leaders for bilateral discussions.
