Sri Lanka President focuses on education in Southern Province

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa has directed relevant officials of Southern Province to take measures to improve the conditions at rural schools in the Province.

The President, who was leading the progress review meeting of the Southern Province held Saturday at Weligama Urban Council Auditorium, focused his attention on the education in the Province.


President Rajapaksa pointed out that there is no teacher shortage in government schools of the Province and said that according to the statistics there is a teacher for every 16 students.
The President also discussed the progress of many development projects under the Mahinda Chinthana program that are currently underway in the Province.
Chief Minister of Southern Province Shan Wijayalal, Southern Province Governor Mrs. Kumari Balasooriya, Ministers, Piyasena Gamage, Dullas Alahapperuma, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Deputy Ministers Luxman Yapa Abeywardena, Gunarathna Weerakoon, MP Namal Rajapaksa, Sajin Vass Gunawardena, Secretary to the President Lalith Weerathunge, Members of the Southern Province council, Government Agents, Secretaries of the Ministries and other senior government officials also were present.
