Cinnamon Gardens police station informed this to the Colombo Chief Magistrate Rashmi Singappuli today.
Submitting a report regarding the trespassing of the University Grants Commission premises by a group of students and damaging the property there, the police said that Premarathna is the main suspect of the incident. Police has arrested and remanded 21 university students over the incident.
The clash between the students who forcibly entered the UGC premises and the police injured 29 people including 19 police officers.
Premarathna, a dropped-out dental medical student is believed to be an activist of the Marxist People's Liberation Front (JVP). Inter University Students' Federation led by JVP is a de facto student union active in a number of universities in Sri Lanka.
