Sri Lanka opposition says unauthorized structures being erected in Sigiriya historical site

Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party today claimed that the government plans to construct unauthorized structures within the Sigiriya historical site claiming to develop the area.

UNP Central Provincial Councilor Sanjeewa Kaviratne told a press conference that the area surrounding the Sigiriya rock is being excavated in a large scale.

He said that about 432 craters have been left following the digging by authorities.

He also claimed that around 300,000 bricks have been transported to the top of the Sigiriya rock.
