President concerned over current unrest in Sri Lankan universities

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has focused his attention to the current student unrest in Sri Lankan universities.

The President met with the Vice Chancellors of all the universities at the Temple Trees today (25) to discuss the current situation in the universities and the necessary steps to be taken to prevent student clashes and restore normal functions.


Currently several faculties in Peradeniya University, Ruhuna University and Kelaniya University have been closed for students while a clash between administrators and monk students of Jayewardenepura University has been reported today.
Six students of Ruhuna University have been suspended for assaulting its Vice Chancellor Prof. Susirith Mendis while 21 students suspected of forcibly entering the Higher Education Ministry premises were arrested last week.
Higher Education Minister S.B Dissanayake and Secretary to the President Lalith Weerathunge were also present.
