Sri Lanka Department of Immigration and Emigration has planned to set up a unit to investigate suspicious documents at Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport.
The unit can accurately check passports and visa certificates etc. for their authenticity.
Australian government has assisted Sri Lanka to set up this unit, says Immigration and Emigration Controller Chulananda Perera. He says that another aim of this unit is to maintain a database to prevent illegal migrations.
The unit has facilities such as 3,500 digital specimens of authentic and false documents, microscopes and other technical equipment that is used in tracing false documents.
