Elections for Sri Lanka Youth Parliament on November 27

Sri Lanka Ministry of Youth Affairs has planned the first session of Youth Parliament to be launched by the President Mahinda Rajapaksa on December 12.

The elections for the Youth Parliament have been scheduled on November 27, Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said.

A total of 332 MPs will be elected to the Youth Parliament to represent the 332 central youth organizations at divisional secretariat level. It will be empowered with responsibility and would not be limited to the name alone, the Minister said.

The Youth Parliament is to meet at the National Youth Center in Maharagama.

The Sri Lanka Youth Parliament is a youth led, youth run initiative, whose aim is to mobilize and create a network of young people to bring about positive and sustainable change to issues that affect youth and their communities in Sri Lanka. It provides skills and opportunities for youth to play a leadership role in identifying and addressing the needs of their own communities.
