Cops send 35-point questionnaire on case to BCCI

The Tamil Nadu police have sought additional details from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)with regard to the criminal complaints filed by secretary N Srinivasan against former IPL chief Lalit Modi and six others.

“We have studied the voluminous documents submitted by the BCCI,” Chennai police commissioner T Rajendran said on Friday. “We have sent a 35-point questionnaire seeking clarifications and information on the allegations of misappropriation made against the accused. We have sought information on where the alleged meetings took place and sent the questionnaire two days ago,” he stated.

Srinivasan, currently abroad, could not be contacted.
Following the filing of criminal complaints of financial misappropriation to the tune of Rs469 crore against Modi and six others, the Tamil Nadu police filed cases under sections 409, 420, 468, 477A and 120B of the IPC.

The main charges pertain to media rights (misappropriation of Rs425 crore), security issues (Rs25 crore) and free commercial air time (Rs29 crore). Srinivasan filed the complaints as a follow-up to the decision taken at the BCCI AGM last month.

The six others include Seamus O’Brien, Venu Nair, Andrew Georgiou, Harish Krishnamachari (all from World Sports Group), Kunal Dasgupta (then chief of MSM which bagged IPL’s telecast rights) and Ajay Varma (whose company bagged the contract for the security service).

Rajendran on October 15 had stated that the police would require a minimum of one week to study the voluminous documents submitted by the BCCI.
