40-yr-old man held for raping his daughter

A 40-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping his 14-year-old daughter in south Delhi late on Monday evening. The man was arrested from outside his house after the police received a complaint from his daughter that he had raped her on at least two earlier occasions and attempted to rape her on Monday morning as well.

The victim approached the PCR van standing near the Aya Nagar Metro station on Monday morning and claimed that her father had tried to rape her. "She said she had somehow managed to escape after her father tried to rape her when he found her alone at home on Monday morning. In her police statement, she has claimed that she was raped by him twice earlier in the past fortnight but had remained silent because he had threatened her of dire consequences. She also claimed that the accused had approached her elder sister on previous occasions but we have received no formal complaint from the sister," said a senior police officer.

The victim's father had reportedly run away and returned home later in the evening thinking the police had left. "We had kept a watch on the house together with the victim. When she pointed out the accused to us, we apprehended him on the spot around 8.30pm. Now, he has been sent to Tihar Jail while the girl is under the care of an NGO. The Child Welfare Centre will decide now on Saturday how the victim is to be taken care of," explained the officer.

The accused is a father of six children and unemployed, according to the cops. His wife, a private employee in Gurgaon, reportedly is the principal breadwinner for the family, supported by the eldest two daughters, including the victim. "The accused would allegedly regularly beat up his wife but he was neither an alcoholic, nor a drug addict," said an officer.
