Sri Lanka's Elections Department has commenced the process of adding internally displaced persons (IDPs), who have returned to their home villages from welfare camps, to the electoral list following data collected by the Grama Niladharis of the respective areas.
Assistant Elections Commissioner Nishantha Diripriya Herath has said that the Grama Niladhari from each area has commenced collecting information of the displaced who have returned, local Daily Mirror reported.
The returnees are to be added to an updated 2009 electoral list.
It has been reported that the Elections Department is to prepare a second list or a 'B list' adding details of the eligible voters who have returned to their original homes.
The list is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
