Sri Lankan government takes steps to prevent prisoners from using mobile phones inside prisons

The Sri Lankan government has decided to take measures to prevent prisoners from using mobile phones inside prison premises.

Minister of Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms D.E.W. Gunasekara has said that the government is to install jamming devices inside prisons island-wide to prevent inmates from using mobile phones inside the premises.
The Minister had made this comment during his speech at a function in Colombo today (14).
According to Gunasekara, prisoners including drug dealers carry out their crimes even while in prison using mobile phones which is illegal.

Last year the police managed to crack an extortion racket carried out by several inmates with the help of several underworld members outside the prison using mobile phones.
