Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa's brother and the Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa shook hand with the President's challenger at last presidential elections, ex-Army Commander General (Retd.) Sarath Fonseka today at the Supreme Court premises when the latter was escorted from Sri Lanka Navy custody to witness the court proceedings on the election petition
.The respondents of the election petition filed by Sarath Fonseka ended their submissions today. The petitioner party is to make submissions tomorrow.
Eight lawyers including Solicitor General Priyashantha Deff and President's Counsel D.S. Wijesinghe submitted evidence on behalf of the respondents. They cited preliminary objections and appealed the petition be rejected.
The preliminary objection is heard by a five-member panel of judges of the Supreme Court including Chief Justice Asoka de Silva, Shirani Bandaranaike, K. Sripavan, P.A. Ratnayake, and S.I. Imam.
Counsel Upul Jayasuriya is to show cause on behalf of the petitioners tomorrow.
