Sri Lanka Ministry of Education has made a change in the position of the Director of national schools
.Accordingly, the Director of national schools position has been abolished. The Director of national schools Srilal Nonis has been transferred to the National Institute of Education.
However, a new position of coordinator of national schools has been newly created. Douglas Ranasinghe has been appointed as the first coordinator of national schools.
Although schools come under the Provincial Ministries of Education the central government has taken around 300 popular schools under its control and they have been named as national schools.
