Sri Lanka Education Minister visits controversial Private Medical College

Sri Lanka Minister of Higher Education S.B. Dissanayake has visited the Private Medical College established in Malabe in Colombo district.

This university is in focus of the media since the protest of the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA).
Addressing the media on Wednesday (Sept 15), GMOA Deputy Chief, Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya said the Private Medical College in Malabe was an illegal operation since it had neither been approved by the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) nor the Board of Investment (BOI).

However, the Minister of Higher Education S.B. Dissanayake who is a strong supporter of private universities said today that the students of Malabe Private Medical College would be granted opportunity to carry out their education.
The controversy created by the GMOA and media has worried the students and the parents of the Malabe Private Medical College. It is reported that a student pays around Rs. 6.5 million for the education in the College.
