Armed gang robs Rs. 70 million from a vehicle at Peliyagoda in Sri Lanka

A high profile armed robbery took place in Sri Lanka this morning when an armed gang traveling in two motor bicycles had stopped a vehicle carrying cash to a bank ATM and robbed 70 million rupees (about 625,000 US dollars) at Peliyagoda, just outskirts of Sri Lankan capital Colombo.

According to local media reports, six armed men on two motor bikes have stopped the vehicle, when it was passing through Peliyagoda, early this morning.

Five persons including two security guards with weapons had been transporting the money when the robbers heisted the money and the weapons of the guards. No injuries have been reported.
The suspects have escaped with the cash and Police are continuing investigations to apprehend the suspects.
