Officials from the United States Embassy in Sri Lanka have recently presented 200 Tamil and 800 English books to the P/Thillayadi M.M.V. Muslim School in Puttalam.
The books were donated by Room to Read Sri Lanka, an organization that promotes literacy throughout Sri Lanka. In promoting the education in war-affected regions in Sri Lanka, the U.S. Government has provided Rs. 1.23 million ($10,000) toward establishing a Psychosocial Center at the T/Thiriyai Tamil Maha Vidyalayam in Kuchchaweli, Trincomalee of Eastern Province. This is the fourth center of its kind to be opened in Sri Lanka.
The U.S. Embassy representatives along with the Sri Lankan government officials will attend the opening of Center on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at 10.00 am. At the opening, U.S. Embassy officials will present books donated by Room to Read to the students.
