Sri Lanka's PBOA to resort to legal action against Transport Minister and NTC

Sri Lanka's Private Bus Owners Association (PBOA) has decided to resort to legal action against the manner in which route permits were issued for the Jaffna-Colombo bus service by the Transport Ministry and the National Transport Commission (NTC).

Head of the PBOA Gemunu Wijeratne told the local media that there was a lack of transparency in the manner in which the route permits were issued.
He charged that the permits were issued on political grounds, as the process was being carried out outside the tender procedures, which is adopted for long-distance service.
He also observed that the latest procedure has resulted in the government losing out billions of rupees in revenue to the state coffers.
According to Wijeratne, the PBOA has decided to resort to legal action against the Ministry and the NTC after consulting its legal experts.
