Sri Lanka's FEB to take maximum possible measures to bring justice to tortured housemaid

Sri Lanka's Foreign Employment Bureau (FEB) is to urge Saudi authorities to take action against the culprits responsible for inserting 23 nails in a Sri Lankan maid.

FEB Chairman Kingsley Ranawaka has told the local media that a translated statement from the victim is to be sent to the Saudi authorities through the Sri Lanka External Affairs Ministry.
The Chairman has condemned the abuse saying the behavior of the Saudi employer was not acceptable and will not be tolerated.

The FEB is to therefore take the maximum necessary measures to ensure that the victim is compensated and justice served.
According to Ranawake, the 56-year-old mother of three had initially not informed her family about the incident and had instead said that she had been abused with thorns from a date tree, but the story had come to light after visiting a doctor and a specialist.
The victim is expected to undergo surgery on Thursday to remove the nails.
