Sri Lanka's education sector unions to protest demanding payment of salary arrears

Sri Lankan trade unions affiliated to the education sector are to hold a protest outside the Colombo Zonal Education Office today (4).


Ceylon Teachers' Union convener, Joseph Stalin said that teachers would protest outside the Colombo Zonal Education Office at 2 p.m. demanding the payment of arrears in their salaries for the past five years.
Stalin said that although numerous requests had been made from authorities to pay the salary arrears for five years, no steps have been taken yet to pay them.
"This is the final resort. Authorities have not paid any attention and we have decided to protest outside the education office," he said.
