Sri Lankan Police block protesting monks from marching towards Hindu temple in Chilaw

Sri Lankan Police officers today prevented a group of protesting Buddhist monks form marching towards the Munneswaram Kali Amman Hindu Temple in Chilaw in the North Western Province.

The protesting monks have decided to march to the Kovil to protest against an animal slaughter ritual that is expected to take place today.
Media reports say the riot police have been deployed in the area and the police have prevented the group of monks from reaching the Kovil creating a tense situation in Chilaw.
The angry monks are reportedly seated on the road, refusing to move from the area till the ritual is stopped.
Around 300 goats and a large number of foul are to be sacrificed to the Hindu Goddess at a religious event today.
