Sri Lankan government to resettle all IDPs by end of September

Sri Lankan government today said that over 235,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have been resettled so far and the resettlement of the remaining IDPs will be completed by the end of September
A presidential advisor on North and East development Chandra Fernando has told reporters today that all efforts would be made to complete the resettlement of remaining 10 percent of IDPs before end of September.

"We hope to be able to complete the resettlement before end of September. There are only 28,000 people left to be resettled in Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi (the former rebel strongholds in the north)," Fernando has said.
Fernando has said that the resettlement in Mannar and Vavuniya districts in the North has been 95 percent completed.
Sri Lanka has made a significant progress in resettling the IDPs within the time frame of one year when compared with most other conflict affected countries where large numbers of people had been displaced, the official noted.
"Our progress has been good compared with most other countries where large numbers of people had been displaced," he was quoted.
