Sri Lanka's Transport Board plans to purchase 100 buses for public transport under a leasing scheme.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa today led a discussion on the proposed measure at the Temple Trees with the participation of Transport Minister Kumara Welgama Transport Secretary Dr. T. Lalithasiri Gunaruwan, Finance Secretary Dr. P. B. Jayasundara, and Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga.
The newest buses in SLTB depots are over five years old and the Board cannot compete with the private buses, the transport officials say.
