Sri Lanka to grant IDPs legal rights for their lands

Land Reform Commission of Sri Lanka says that the government has taken measures to provide the resettled internally displaced persons their land rights
.The Chairman of the Land Reform Commission Nimal Punchihewa said that the displaced persons are resettling gradually now in the land in which they previously dwelled.
Most of the internally displaced persons cannot possess legal documents for the land since they were out of bound of the state for long times and repeated displacement made them lose whatever the titles they had.
However, the Chairman of the Land Reform Commission points out that 10,000 such families will be granted legal rights by November.
Meanwhile, media and activists are alleging the government is making drastic changes in demography of the war ravaged Northern Province areas.
