Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau said it has made arrangements to repatriate the Sri Lankan immigrant workers stranded in Saudi Arabia who have left their employment due to various reasons.
The SLFEB plans to bring the workers home within the next few days. The Bureau has spent more than three million rupees for their repatriation, SLFEB disclosed.
The Bureau further said that investigations have been concluded on the Sri Lankan women who stay at the Oley Residential Centre in Riyadh ' Saudi Arabia.
Sri Lankan migrant workers, especially females face untold difficulties and abuses at the hands of their Middle Eastern employers often.
Migrant remittances are a mainstay of the Lankan economy, accounting for about 7% of GDP and 36% of export earnings.
