Sri Lanka nurses seek five-day working week

The Secretary of the Ministry of Health Dr. Ravindra Ruberu says that the Ministry is taking action to solve the issues related to the Sri Lanka Nursing Service
.The Secretary made these comments to state-owned Sinhala weekly The Dinamina newspaper regarding the allegations of the nurses' trade unions that the government is not solving their problems.
Nursing trade unions have submitted a number of demands including a five-day working week similar to other public servants. The General Secretary of the Government Nursing Officers' Association Saman Rathnapriya says that the government has not released the report of the committee appointed in this regard.
The nursing trade unions also urge the government to grant them the right of promotions to Grade 1 after 12 years of service similar to the service of auxiliary medicine.
