Sri Lanka Marxist alliance to appeal against court martial ruling on former Army Commander

Sri Lanka's Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna led Democratic National Alliance (DNA) parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today that the party will take steps to appeal the recent court martial verdict against their leader former Army Commander General (retired) Sarath Fonseka.

The DNA MP said at a press conference held in Colombo today that the court martial is not above the judiciary system of Sri Lanka. Therefore, many rulings of courts martial have been changed by the judiciary system of the country, he said.
The MP said that the appeal will be filed in civil Court of Appeal.
The first Court Martial, probing charges against Fonseka's participation in political work while in active service convicted him of all three charges during its sittings on August 13.
