Sri Lanka extends emergency for another month

Sri Lanka parliament approved the extension of Emergency Regulations for another month today by a majority of 82 votes with 120 members voting for it and 38 against.


The opposition parties, UNP, TNA and DNA voted against the extension while UNP Parliamentarian Abdul Cader voted with the government this time as well.
During the emergency debate yesterday, the Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratna told parliament that the government needs to maintain emergency laws to ensure the safety and security of the nation.
