Reportedly Dilshan has suggested Randiv who has not thrown a single no-ball in the season to throw a no-ball to stop Indian batsman Virendra Sehwag from scoring a century to strand him at 99.
The cricket authority also reprimanded the Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara and advised him to ensure that such incidents affecting the spirit of the game will not repeat in the future.
Announcing the decision SLC said it is extremely proud of its team and their achievements over the years and it is of "paramount importance to maintain the discipline of the Gentlemen's game, especially with Sri Lanka Cricket being winners of the 'ICC Spirit of the Game' award for two consecutive years."
"As such Sri Lanka Cricket has taken a stern decision against Suraj Randiv and T M Dilshan, for their actions during the 3rd ODI of the Micromax Tri-Series held on August 16, 2010, between India, in Dambulla, wherein Virender Sehwag was deprived of scoring his century due to the delivery of a no ball by Suraj Randiv," SLC said.
Suraj Randiv has been suspended from the next match against New Zealand on August 19, 2010 and his match fee for the troubled match on August 16, 2010, has been forfeited, SLC announced.
The six-member committee which met this afternoon decided to take disciplinary action against the players on the recommendations of team manager Anura Tennakoon who probed the 'no-ball' controversy.
Sri Lanka Cricket and the team officials apologized to the Indian team and cricket authorities. Randiv personally apologized to Sehwag for depriving him of his well deserved-century. Captain Sangakkara offered his apologies to Indian Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
The apologies made the India's team management to declare the whole incident a "closed chapter". India's cricket board BCCI has decided not to pursue the matter any further.
