Sri Lanka Courts of Appeal to be granted powers to hear fundamental rights petitions

Sri Lanka Minister of Justice Athavuda Senevirathna says that the Court of Appeal will be vested with powers to investigate fundamental rights petitions.

The Minister says that these powers will be vested in the Court of Appeal under the proposed law reforms.
So far, the fundamental rights petitions could be filed only in Supreme Court.
The Minister also says that the judiciary system will be restructured and new courts will be established to prevent the delays in delivering justice.
