President inspects Hambanthota Harbor ahead of water-filling ceremony



Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa made a visit Saturday to inspect the newly-built Hambanthota Port ahead of flooding its inland harbor tomorrow.

The new harbor was built inland and it will be filled with sea water beginning tomorrow at a rate of one meter in height per day. It is estimated to take 25-30 days to fill the harbor completely. President Rajapaksa will ceremoniously launch the operation tomorrow.


Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardana, parliamentarianNamal Rajapaksa, Chairman of Colombo Port Dr. Priyath Bandu Wickrema accompanied the President in his inspection tour.
